A healthy gut requires a strong, healthy gut barrier. Foundational strain, Akkermansia muciniphila plays a critical role in reversing the negative impact that factors like diet, lifestyle, and stress can have on your gut lining. We pioneered its use in probiotic supplements, and a single dose of our Akkermansia formula contains 100 million AFU of this potent live strain.

  • Fortifies the gut lining*
  • Reduces gut permeability*
  • Supports overall gut health

*Based on preclinical studies.

Usage

Adults take one capsule daily with food. Store at room temperature.

Active ingredients
  • Akkermansia muciniphila (100 million AFU)
  • Chicory inulin
What to expect

Week 1 - 3 Initiation

You may experience mild digestive changes. This is usually temporary and indicates that the strains are simply settling into their new environment — your gut.

Month 1 - 2 Initial changes

It usually takes around 90 days to see changes in the microbiome. However, results vary based on your gut, and you may begin to feel some benefits.

Month 3+ Full benefits

Good things take time. By now, your gut microbiome is reset and your digestive function is supported. Your gut feels good and so do you. Reminder: health depends on habit formation and benefits are optimized with daily use.

Your best line of defense

Stress, repeated antibiotic use, and other external factors can degrade the integrity of your gut lining. When this happens, the toxins in your gut can more easily infiltrate your body. Another adverse effect is a reduction in the amount ofAkkermansia muciniphila, a naturally occurring bacterial strain essential for maintaining the integrity of your gut barrier and thus your overall gut health.

Akkermansia is a foundational strain that fortifies your gut lining, reduces gut permeability, and supports metabolic function.
Improve gut health and digestion

Pendulum Akkermansia reinforces the mucin layer of the gut lining*, reducing permeability* and supporting overall digestive comfort.

*Based on preclinical studies

**Based on a consumer survey of 172 people over 3 months

Reduce food cravings

Pendulum Akkermansia supports your gut lining and may influence the gut-brain axis—the communication pathway that helps regulate hunger signals. A stronger gut lining can help rebalance the signals that affect cravings and appetite.

*Based on a consumer survey of 80 people over 3 months

Recommended by more than 29,000 medical professionals.

How Akkermansia fortifies your gut

1- RESET

The Akkermansia bacteria feeds on mucin, the thin protective layer that keeps your gut lining strong and less permeable.

2 - REPLENISH

As the Akkermansia consumes mucin, it stimulates your gut to produce new mucin.

3 - REINFORCE

Freshly produced mucin fortifies your gut barrier and keeps toxins from traveling to the rest of your body.

Our inspiration is our family. And yours.

We're a team of scientists, doctors, and innovators. But we're also a family, both at home and at work inour San Francisco-based headquarters. And like anytight-knit family, we're inspired by keeping each otherhealthy, happy, and well.
At Pendulum, we're passionate about findingrevolutionary, safe, and effective solutions to theailments that can be tied to our gut health. And givenour backgrounds in biostatistics, microbiologybiotechnology, and medical research, we recognizethat the key to discovering these solutions lies withinthe emerging field of microbiome science.

Our mission is to bridge nature and medicine

We understand that whole-body health and wellness is tied to the complex ecosystem of microorganisms that is the microbiome, and that addressing imbalances in the microbiome transform people’s lives from the inside.

Our mission is simple: to improve the lives of millions through microbiome products. To that end, we are creating products that have the power and efficacy of a pharmaceutical with the safety and accessibility of a probiotic.

More than a microbiome scientist, our pioneering CEO is a mom.

Colleen Cutcliffe has an impressive background leading and managing biology teams. She’s a scientist with a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Microbiology from Johns Hopkins University and has held senior positions at bioscience and pharmaceutical firms. She’s also a mom, not to mention our CEO.

Colleen and her two co-founders, John and Jim, saw an opportunity to apply next-generation DNA sequencing technologies and microbiological assays to the emerging microbiome science space. Using these data, they could create metabolic maps of the microbiome and use systems biology to make novel insights into the microbiome. This scientific trio was uniquely positioned to bring new products to the world.

It was her role as a mom, however, that inspired her to team up with her two former colleagues and create Pendulum. Colleen’s first daughter was born eight weeks prematurely. That meant instead of heading home that day with mom and dad, she was whisked away to the NICU for four weeks, receiving multiple doses of antibiotics as a precautionary measure due to her fragile state.

Multiple publications have shown the longer term chronic risks associated with early antibiotics. This led Colleen, John and Jim on their journey to find a safe solution for those who struggle with chronic issues that are the result of a disrupted microbiome. And, this set the stage for the vision of the company to create a new generation of natural products that have proven efficacy.

After nearly a decade of research, Pendulum Glucose Control was born and remains a central part of Colleen and her daughter's wellness.

Yes, there are studies suggesting thatAkkermansia muciniphila, a species of bacteria found in the gut, improves gut health.

Akkermansia: Overview

What consumer surveys have been done on Akkermansia?

In a consumer study of 172 people taking Akkermansia over 12 weeks of product use, 82% reported improved bowel movements, 77% reported improved GI/gut health, 71% reported reduced occasional gas & bloating, and 67% reported reduced diarrhea. In a separate consumer study of 86 people taking Akkermansia for 3 months, 91% reported reduced overall food cravings and 86% reported reduced sugar cravings.

Akkermansia: Comparison to other Pendulum probiotics

How does Akkermansia compare to other Pendulum products, and which one is right for me?
Akkermansia is a single-strain probiotic, meaning it only contains the live Akkermansia muciniphila strain.

You might notice that our multi-strain probiotics also contain Akkermansia. That’s because we so deeply believe in the power and efficacy of this keystone strain for gut health that we use it in all of our formulations.

Akkermansia: Safety

Is Akkermansia safe?
Akkermansia contains Akkermansia muciniphila, a beneficial bacterial strain naturally found in the human gut of people with healthy microbiomes. Akkermansia muciniphila has undergone extensive safety studies and found to be safe.

Can or should I take Akkermansia if I’m pregnant?
Akkermansia contains a beneficial bacterial strain that exists within the gut microbiome of healthy people, including during pregnancy. To date, Akkermansia has not been studied in women who are either pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
